Head of Big Data Research Group
András Benczúr is the head of Informatics Laboratory of 30 doctoral students, post-docs and developers. Benczúr received his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997, since then his interest turned to Information Retrieval and Web Search. He was representing SZTAKI as principal investigator in several EU and national R&D projects. His research on spam filtering and low space approximations for very large scale Web analysis was awarded by a Yahoo Faculty Research Grant in 2006; in 2012 he was awarded the Momentum grant of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for Big Data research. András serves on the program committees of leading conferences including WWW, WSDM, ECML/PKDD, he was Workshop Chair for WWW 2009 and main organizer of the ECML/PKDD Discovery Challenge 2010. He gives regular masters and doctoral level courses at Eötvös University Budapest and Technical University Budapest and English courses in Algorithms and Data Mining at the Central European University and the Aquincum Institute of Technology. His group leads the development of Apache Flink streaming.
